sigma 12-24mm is the widest non-fisheye lens for full frame or 1.3x crop cameras. quite acceptable at 12mm if stopped down. (apparently, i haven't tried one. i have used the sigma 14mm f2.8 which was ok, but not stellar)

Neat, the sigma sounds like a useful lens and it's very reasonable ... for the most part, ultra wide angles aren't the best ... my Nikon 12-24mm is really bad wide open at the edges (outer quarter) and it was about $1100. This is a grand discussion. The links and searches on wide angle and fisheye were a very pleasant surprise as I rarely think about shooting this range.

Opinions on the Sigma 8mm fisheye? Is it 1DmII compatible?

Yes, it's compatible. You will not get a complete circular 180 degree image on a 1D Mk II like you would on a full frame, though. It will crop a little from the top and bottom.

Pcas, does that mean I'll have to add a 1DsMII to my stable? :-)
