I think this lens has pretty good bokeh.

Nicely composed shot but I find the bokeh fairly harsh and rough looking. Bokeh refers to the quality of the background blur and in your example, the OOF highlights have a distinctive 5-sided look (from the shutter blades) that seem distracting. When you get into the L lenses, you notice that these highlights blend in smoother with the background and appear almost perfectly round with a soft-edge.........that said, your shot does look good. What kind of flower?

Shutter blades DO NOT produce a 5-sided look.

The diaphram blades (producing aperture) might.

I find the bokeh rather terrible. After using this 85mm jupiter, i'm picky. ;)

I am not too enthusiastic about the bokeh, either.

Take a look at this thread.

It's somehow becoming the resident bokeh experience thread, mainly because it also provides links to all the other threads discussing the issue.

Best regards,
Andy

and still a lot of things to learn...

You are correct Bob!! Sorry..........blades from the diaphragm produce the edged look that you can see in OOF highlights. I gladly stand corrected!:D
