Anyone know of a book or website where i can find out what lens will work on what camera.
Example what lens other than Canon will fit EF mount.
I would like to find a book that listed all cameras and what lens will fit them TIA for reply.

I don't think that there is such beast but the answer is pretty straight forward. All Canon EOS cameras handle the EF mount lenses. Some also handle the EF-S lenses. If you want to use a Nikon lens, you'll have to purchase a Nikon to Ef converter. There are a few converters out there for the different mounts, but none will handle all of them.

So far Canon EOS have made it simple......red dot, white dot. If the camera has both on it then it will take EF and EF-S lenses.

Red dot= EF
White dot= EF-S

Sigma, Tamron, Tokina (those are the major 3rd party brands) and maybe a few others make lenses for Canon EOS mount.

For cameras such as the Rebels, and 20->50D, and 7D, you can use EF-S lenses or "digital" lenses from 3rd party brands. Sigma labels their lenses "DC" I'm not sure what Tamron etc. does.

If you want to use Nikon lenses or older manual focus SLR lenses you can find adapters. Pretty straightforward as mentioned.

Sony A6000, 16-50PZ, 55-210, 35mm 1.8 OSS
Canon 60D, 30D
Tamron 28-75 2.8, Tamron 17-35, Sigma 50mm 1.4, Canon 85mm 1.8

In general, NO other camera manufacturer's lenses will fit Canon's mounts without some sort of adapter. By this, I mean that no Nikon, Pentax, Minolta, etc., lens will fit a Canon camera without an adapter (which none of the camera manufacturers produce).

There are, however, several third-party lens manufacturers who make their lenses with various camera mounts (you choose the camera mount when buying the lens) and they usually have lenses to fit Canon's EF mount. The reputable third-party lens manufacturers list includes Sigma, Tamron, Tokina, and a few others.

If you look at the first three posts of this thread, it lists out all of the EF and EF-S mount lenses but that's Canon only. http://67.228.38.154/forum/showthread.php?t=257659 (external link)
For other manufacturers you might have to do some digging. There are a boatload of cameras out there.

Thanks guys you have answered what I wanted to know.
I'm new to this hobby I bought a Olympus OM-1 years ago but never used it but a few times maybe 2 rolls of film in 20 years.
Recently I got interested and bought a used Canon Rebel-X and got adapter ring for the Olympus lens I have a lot of those but was wondering if any of the major manufactured lens would be the same as the EF mount.
I just bought a new Rebel XSi 450D with 4 lens remote control tripod camera bag filters and charger several other things all in a kit.
I think the Digital 450 will do well for my once I learn to use it, only shot a few pictures with it and i had it on full auto but they came out good.
Thanks for the replies you have answered what I needed to know.
Great site lot of info here.

My 450D just has the red dot but I see a lens on E-Bay that the ad claims the lens will work on all EOS including the 450D is that possible.

Since I have a Rebel-X and a 450D this would be a very nice lens for me if it can work on both camera's.

If it's a EF mount lens, it will work on all EOS cameras.

Look again at the body. Remove the lens an you should see both a red dot and just a little farther along on the lens mount a white dot as well. THe 450 has a EF-S mount adn will accept either a EF mount lens or a EF-S mount lens.

I have never heard of a Canon EF-III lens. I also have never heard of the Toyo brand. I'd like to see a lot more information about both, though, before making any real comments on them.

Beware of scammers on ebay. They seem to crawl out of the woodwork and snag newbies all the time.
