If you receive money via PP, does it automatically go straight to your bank account? I noticed that when I received my ebay cashback with bing it never was deposited in my account but rather my next PP purchase it was deducted the amount of the cashback.

Money going into Paypal stays in a pot in Paypal until you withdraw it to your account (pending clearance, naturally), or until you spend the money on something else using your paypal account.

It's kind of like a holding account.

At least you earn a little (and I mean very little) interest while Pay Pal holds it.
