This is supposed to be a CP-E4 replacement. I was wondering if anyone has used it and if it works as advertised (fast recycle, lots of pops).

That link is the SF17.

I own 2x SF18 (8 battery true clone CP-E4). One's still in the box. It works well as long as you can tolerate a springy coil wire.

So far I have used it for my friends wedding. At the tail end of the night I had to swap batteries.

Feedback of eBayers who bought it:
"Gute Ware, schnelle Lieferung, gerne wieder! Good stuff, fast shipping"
"Great product. Fast shipping. Used it for a wedding with no problems"

I own a CP-E4 and just got the SF-18. I used it today with Energizer 2500mah for a senior shoot today with a 580EX. I had no problems. I only shot about 170 images but recycle time was still good. The battery holder is similar to the canon. I sure its not as weather resistant.

I just got two of them, I also have 2 Canon CP-E4s. The battery carriers are interchangable.
They have recycle times that are similar as well. I justed one for a wedding yesterday and it worked just like the CPs have in the past.

One difference I noticed when testing with my 580EX and 580EXII. On the 580EX the light flashes while the flash is recycling then becomes a steady light when the flash recharges. On the 580EXII the light is dimmer and does not indicate recharging.

I would say they are similar to CP-E4 for weather proofing. Same rubber gasket around plug and nothing on either one where battery cage goes into housing.

Some people has mentioned a buzzing sound from the clone. Mine do buzz while they are charing the flash. I think its the transformer buzz. It goes away when the charge is complete. The Canon unit has a shielding around the electronics which probably keeps us from hearing the transformer buzz.

I have the jiakgong 8AA battery pack for my 580EX.

This really works well. Shot a job last month with it... over 600 fill-flash shots and it really didn't slow down.

The build quality is fine and the pouch that comes with it is really solidly built. No buzzing on my unit.

For $44.00US total it's a steal. I'll probably buy another as a spare.

One reason I got the SF-18 was a hope that its battery cages would be interchangable with the Canon CP-E4. I'm considering moding one of the SF-18s to use a 12v SLA battery. And still have the extra battery pack for my other units.

I had the SF-18 loaded with Eveready 2500mA rechargables and it was delivering 1.5 or less recycle for full power on the 580EX at the end of the reception. Probably 450 or more TTL exposures.

Just got a YongNuo SF-18, this thing is really cool, for 1/4th the cost of the OEM CP-E4 I can certainly live with coiled cord...when I get exactly the same functionality. Very cool product.

I wonder how long I have to hang out on POTN before I get as good as Ansel Adams ?
