Honestly, you need a master's degree in Adobe to do anything. Can I make 13x19 prints with elements 7? Any help would be appreciated.

Canon 30D
Canon EF-S 17-85
Canon EF 75-300
Canon EF 100-400
Canon 550 EX Speedlite

I have never tried but I don't see why that particular size would be a problem. I just checked in elements 8 and 13x19(a3+) is an available choice in the print dialog.

Now cropping in 13x19 might be a problem. It's not part of the choices and I have not yet found how to give elemens a custom ratio for cropping.

Did a little googling...

You can crop at 13x19 by using the rectangular marquee tool and specifying a ratio of 13x19

Open the crop tool and choose "custom" from the drop-down crop options at the top of the editing window, then enter the dimensions you want in the width and height fields. You can leave the resolution field blank or enter a PPI figure if you want the image re-sampled when it's cropped.

That works too but it's not very convenient as it requires some math to find out how many pixels wide and high you want. Also it does not allow to move the box after or if you do it will resample the pic to the number of pixels you asked. So asking for 13 by 19 will resample the image dramatically to something that is not even thumbnail sized!

Hi Mustang - I'm using CS3 instead of Elements but I think the process would be similar. I output to 13x19 paper directly from CS3, but I really make 15x10 prints on that size paper.

I don't worry about pixel density or do any math - just PP the full rez image in CS3 as I normally would, then save it. When it comes time to print, I change the dimension size to 15" for the longest side and have the program automatically calculate the other side proportionally. This gives me a 15 by "X" print on the 13x19 paper, with white borders, which is fine because I am matting these prints and placing them in 16x20 frames.

I hope I made sense - Stu

That's why I don't use the resolution field, just the 13X19 ratio with the width and height fields, making a 100% crop at that ratio.

How do you "change the dimension to 15inch"?
And what if you image does not have the right ratio to start with. Do you crop first to the right ratio and then do the change dimension step?

I'm either not understanding something or it's a bug in elements 8. I enter custom aspect ratio, 13 and 19 and leave resolution blank. It gives me a nice box that I can drag a resize while it keeps 13x19 ratio. Then when I click the green checkmark I end up with a 13pixels by 19pixels image.

If you are cropping a portion of the photo to that size then choose the crop tool then at the top enter your width...type in exactly "13 in" and height "19 in" set resolution to 300, crop your image and your set :)

That would happen if the measuring unit for the width and height fields is pixels and not inches or centimeters. I use pixels as the unit when I want to crop (not re-size) an image to 1024 pixels to post here on POTN.

Here's a screenshot from PSE7 showing the unit of measure as inches.

Just like in the above posted example, you have to actually type "in" after the number if you want inches, otherwise it uses pixels by default.

well i just got a canon 900 mkII and when you print choose that [or your] printer it allows the 13x19 size directly, if you crop at 16/9 [hd] it prints borderless nicely

you may have to upsize if you don't have enough pixels/inch

wants for Ls :D , now have 400do;500f4is,600f4 :cool: off to birding and airshows:):):)
