Well, with bird photography is not often desirable to be abstract. Either you get the shot of the subject clearly under good lighting or you don't. The two subjects are mutually exclusive. They have nothing to do with one another. Unless the gator was about to eat the duck..... The lighting condition is very bad having the sun in front of you. Resulting casting a huge shadow of your subjects.

I agree with the above suggestions. Both subjects are shadowed due to the harsh lighting and they are too far apart from each other. Keep at it.
