Hi Guys,

I am looking at importing either some Elinchrom or Bowens flash heads from the UK to Australia. Does anyone know if either of these are covered by an international warranty or will they need to be sent back to the UK?

I tried looking through both manufacturer's websites but they don't give any warranty terms and conditions.

Thanks,
Jason.

Hi Jdear,

It's not availability it's price. The pound aussie dollar rate makes it substantially cheaper to import rather than buy locally.

Nope don't think there is an international warranty on them, have to buy them here for that.

Also remember, anything over $1000 and you will probably have to pay gst when bringing them in, so add 10% to the price.

Elinchrom items work flawlessly and one need not to get worried about the warranty. In case you broke something, I dont think that would come under warranty and you will end up paying for the repairs.

Jonathan - its a risk with a new product like the Quadras. I nearly purchased mine from overseas and but at the last moment decided against it and I'm glad I did because I had problems with misfires. I did some testing with Elinchrom via email... sent Kayell the details and there were no questions asked - they swapped it all over on the spot.

Hi Jdear,

I am looking at BXRi 500s. Even allowing for the 10% GST and customs clearance charges it is still going to be $400 - $500 cheaper to import from the UK rather than buy local. The question is do I take a risk on importing the BXRis or do I settle for some D'Lite 4s locally....

Jason.

Jason if you are running a photography business remember there is a 50% tax rebates to be factored in for equipment purchases over $1000 for small businesses in Australia made before December 31. That should be factored in to local pricing.
