So I haven't been around much in the last couple months.. I have been really busy with work and Home and whats been really taking up most of my free time.. I Joined an Animal Shelter as a director and its really been a great choice.. I started doing photography for them, events and such but then was asked to become a director and I jumped on the chance. Working in Animal welfare has been a real eye opener. Any how, heres some of what I have been up to.

Kittens in cages! Pics of some of the 80 kittens we took in this summer..I took them in their cages to "tug at the heart strings" of potential adopters..All these kittens Have pretty much wiped out our emergency medical fund.. every one goes to the vets, get all their shots, spay neuter, and if they are sick, they get their meds or operations.

If you are photographing for a website to attract potential adopters try getting the kittens out of the cages. I've been photographing the adoptable pets at our local humane society for about 3 years now and we have found that focusing on the eyes with the kittens outside the cages has boosted the adoption rate on all the animals cats as well as dogs. Its more difficult as it takes two people but the results make it all worth while.

Thanks guys..

Balihai, Not really using these for the site, just to make 8x10 prints for events.. to get to the people who look at all the cute, calendar type photos and say "aww ... soo cute, I love kittens.. But I cant afford a pet right now.." then drive off in their BMW to go out to dinner..lol Kinda trying to pull their heads out of the sand and make them join the rest of us here in the real world where it doesnt matter how cute and precious you think they are cause that does nothing to help them if you dont adopt or donate. We really dont have too many problems getting Kittens and Puppies adopted, its the older dogs and cats that are harder to place. Although we do have 80-some odd kittens..and getting more every week.. I am gonna try some out of cage shots for the local news papers to run.. We have a smal Isolation room where I can let a kitten roam and be a kitten while I shoot.. Ive used it for older cats and it works out good.

Fantastic shots! I really like how you've done them. And what a bunch of cute kitties. So sad to know they're at the shelter. I really wish people would be more responsible pet owners......

Oh my gosh, great pics. They are all sooo cute. Hope they get adopted! -fingers crossed- if not, they can all come live in my room >.< And everything else we happen upon that looks like it needs a warm bed (currently being shared by two stray dogs and a cat already, but hey! Tons of room to share!) =)

Congratulations on the pics and for stepping up as director. As director, you might be interested in our experience. Preparing for a vacation trip, we visited an indoor shopping center. The Yolo County SPCA had LOADED the free space with a variety of animals up for adoption (dogs, cats, rabbits, etc.). We left with a great Beagle-Fox Hound mix. What I thought you might find interesting is that the Yolo County SPCA (http://www.yolospca.org/ (external link)) is a foster-based program with no shelter facility. They seem to be quite effective.
