want a wider aperture for night shots tossing up 16-35 or this so so torn.

Agree...there's just something "magical" about this lens once you master it's nuances...

Everyone's mileage may vary. I owned the 16-35 mk2, and it's a convenient lens on a full frame. It has it's use.

But if I can only keep one, I would pick the 21mm due to it's optical quality and the Zeiss mood it produces.

I sold the 16-35 mk2 after I use the 21mm the 2nd time.

If I can afford it, I'll keep both.

Aren't both lenses f2.8? What am I missing?

And, check the used boards here and on FM. I got a pristine copy of the ZE21 for 1550 by waiting for the right deal. It didnt come up right away, but every couple months a great deal pops up.
