thanks bud... i just moved from los angeles to dallas, and with the holidays... things just kept me busy. My wife and kids are still back in LA... hopefully we get them here in 6 weeks.

I should be ordering some new lenses next friday, im lacking some basic focal lengths like 50mm and such. Spring is on its way and i really want to get into more into shooting... we will see how it goes.

Zeiss as was made by Germans was the Sine qua non of perfection in Opticals.
Now the question is who makes it now a days and how comparable to old ones are the new stuff.

Zeiss is designing in Germany and producing in China, since mid 2004.
They didnt came up with too bad stuff since then, did they!?

I'll have to check the documentation from mine but I'm pretty sure that all Zeiss Z series SLR lenses are made in Japan by Cosina to Zeiss designs

very nice going, this weekend im finally give mine a spin again, cant wait, mostly through the VF - as my cam these days is the ds2... have not used this on a ds2, cant wait to see IQ.

Yep, thats what they say on their Website too.
What i want to mention was that it doesnt matter where all this stuff comes from, as long as the Know How and Quality Checks are up to date.
High class Manufacturing isnt a question of where you produce your stuff, its a question of how you want to produce, quality wise.

And trust me, you dont want to pay for the german guy that costs about 40€ per hour, just for looking through the little Window in the CNC Machines.

I agree, if the lens is well built with good QC it doesn't really matter where it was made - although if the manufacturer is using cheap labour in places like the far east I'd expect to see some reflection of this in the price.

Saying that, it is worth pointing out that even though they're not manufactured in Germany by Zeiss neither are they Chinese made, which for a lens at this price point is to be expected IMO

Like i said, Zeiss is producing in China since 2004, and they are not known for cheapo low quality Stuff... no matter what ever Product it is.
