I'm bidding on a used 135mm f2 on ebay and didn't pay attention and i think i went a little high on the bid. I was checking on the usual online sights and for current prices and noticed no one has them in stock. does anyone know if something is going on with this lens?

Yeah, suddenly this lens became really HOT...probably people realized that it's the best bargain L lens for under a $1000 for a long time.

Sure it is. You pay extra for the red ring and the date code.

I really like the focal length of the 135 better than 100 on my 5D. There is just something about that lens that makes me want to buy it more than any other one right now.

135mm f2 makes more sense than 100mm f2. that and it's sharper than the 100mm f2.

At more than twice the cost? Wow. It is slightly sharper but the difference is so small nobody would even notice. The 100 makes a very nice alternative for those who would rather put the extra money towards an additional lens or accessory.

Canon seems to produce lenses in production runs, and most of the popular ones appear to be out of stock everywhere at certain times. Really nothing unusual.

I haven't used the 100, but the 135 makes photos that I can spot even without looking at exif. They're crazy sharp, bokeh is creamy, contrast, saturation and vibrance is awesome. It's just a sweet piece of glass.

The 135L has been out of stock before, sparking rumors that Canon stopped production... and then it reappeared :D

I recently got mine too... second hand, but it's a UX05. It's by far the sharpest lens that Canon makes within reason (200 ƒ2 comes to mind).

I think the 100mm is a great lens, as is the 35 ƒ2, the 50 1.4, 85 1.8, etc, but the L versions just beat each of these handsdown, no question about it. By how much, and whether you're willing to spend the money for them, is the question.

Yes the color, contrast and bokeh are normally a little better on the L's. But the 85 f1.8, 100 f2 and 135 f2 are three lenses that produce very, very similar results.

In fact they're so similar, I'll bet a year's salary I could take photos with the 100 and produce excellent quality prints, tell 50 owners of the 135 the photos were shot with the 135, and not a single person would question it.

Might be a fun experiment to try!!

Ok, maybe not quite a year's salary. That might be going a bit overboard. I'll think of something else......

Saint728I saw them in stock at few places, but some of those guys say it's in stock no matter what and take weeks to ship. I could always pick one up locally.

Yeah, I'm not really sure why I bid on the 135mm other than wanting my first L. What I was looking for was a lens to carry around with my 17-55 that's with me all time. I was considering the 85mm 1.8 and then the 100mm macro too. I guess I could pick up the both those lenses for what the 135 costs. But you know, we dreams of the L's.
