I handled one of these for the first time on the weekend and wondered how it works on the 350XT size and weight-wise...can you put this lens on the camera and walk around with it or does the lens need support constantly? It looks like it would snap off the camera. Anyone have experience with these two together?

thanks. :)

I've never had an issue using a friends 70-200mm f2.8 from time to time on my 300D, but I've never carried it with the camera strap either. I place the lens and body in a quality bag. You may want to mount the strap to the lens instead. Since the lens mount is still metal on the 350XT you should be fine, but I'd still support the lens not the camera.

I assume you are referring to the 70-200 f2.8 or f2.8IS. The f4 is plenty light for the XT.

the f/4 felt fine on the xt. Any heavier/longer and it becomes unbalanced and feels akward. The optional vert. grip will help.

I am using the 2.8 on the XT without problem. Often I find myself mounting the tripod ring also if I shoot handheld just because the "handle" of the T.R. helps me holding the whole thing in some strange positions.

Yeah, the F4 is fine on my XT. It feels sturdy even if you're only holding the camera... although I don't know anybody that would do that.
It especially feels nice with the new POTN strap.

I've never felt like the lens was going to snap off. Hanging off my neck with just the strap, it dangles straight down and feels secure. Although, I tend not to do that. There's something about hanging $3000 off of a $20 strap.

:D:D That's right. I have that strange feeling everytime I have either the 70-200 (sometimes with the 2x) or the 35-350 hanging from my neck. I usually end up holding it in hand by the body of the lens. I just feel more secure.
