One of my coworkers friends is getting married (and they apparently have a very tight budget). The original Photographer canceled out as did the secondary photographer who was contacted. The wedding is Friday, October 23. She has asked me to borrow one of my cameras, which I don't have a problem with. But for some strange reason I have been thinking about volintering to shoot this wedding, and NO I have never shot a wedding before. Yes I keep telling myself that I am crazy for even thinking about this. SO will someone PLEASE talk me out of this insanity.

Don't do it unless you're getting paid

Simple as that

Just take your camera and take snapshots at the ceremony, then get your party on

I don't know the couple, just work with one of there friends. I really should keep my mouth shut (and not suggest that I could take photographs) , but then .......

How can we answer this? Especially considering the biography in your profile...

Well there is the problem, I do and don't at the same time.

If you aren't 110% IN, you probably ought to stay 100% OUT... ;)

That is probably very good advice, now I just need to convince myself that I should heed it.

I still keep telling myself that I would do a better job than my coworker as I am much more familiar with photography, but considering that I don't know these people why should I care? While I might make a little money from it I very likely would not.

I definitely am not 110% IN.

Charging someone for shooting your first ever wedding when your not properly prepared or even sure you want to do it in the first place is just asking for trouble imo.

By charging them money your saying you can handle it when you don't know if you can and at the same time raising expectations and putting pressure on you to produce the goods.

What do you have to lose? Well as Jon says LOTS of time, it'll add pressure to your life, and it's hard work, but plenty of people love doing it.

well if you take money from these people, there is some chance you will get taken to court like a recent couple too their photographer for less than decent pictures :D

But this was an rare case...;)

Like you i was asked to shoot a wedding but said no

I can tell your not 100% confident already, so why put yourself through the stress you might get

On the other hand if you pull it off you might get some paid work out of it

Like i always say sometimes the juice aint worth the squeeze

Good luck either way :D

Oh...Hello :)
