That about sums it up. I just went to a 50mm ZE and love it. I also just sold off some Canon WAs, so now I'll have all Zeiss below 50mm (except my 16-35 L II). (Not a big fan of Canon's WA offerings, even the Ls.)

So my question is, should I keep my 85 1.8 or flip out to the Zeiss 85 1.4. Don't tell me how great the 1.2L is — it'll never be in the budget. I'm keeping my 135 f2 Canon and all things longer, but where do I make the Zeiss cut-off?

Thanks, guys

Rokinon 85/1.4 may be a much better lens. Especially for the money. As far as Zeiss goes, it is hard to make blanket conclusions like Zeiss is better above/below Xmm, etc. Always boils down to specific lenses.

;) Well, I was asking specifically about the 85. I'll look at the Rokinon 85

Yeah, check this out

Three 85mm's compared: http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/825463 (external link)

The FD85mm f/1.2 / Rokinon 85mm f/1.4 / Canon 85/1.8 are compared

The Rokinon/Samyang/Vivitar is a very strong performer. Users of the lens say its the Sigmalux of 85mm :D (due to its OoF rendering)

I've been reading about it for an hour. Some samples are great, others very poor. OoF is very nice indeed

And so cheap! I saw it at Overstock for 266. Aperature ring on the Canon version? Is it stop-down metering? Is there focus confirmation?

I saw one listing as a lens for Rebels... is it EF-S? Not for FF?

Not that anyone cares, but I decided to keep both my 85 and 135 until the Zeiss 100 f2 Makro gets released (soon, according to Zeiss). Then I'll sell both.
