I had an IR remote for my XSi and it failed me once in pretty much the most critical situation I ever used it in (due to distance and ambient light). Now I have a 50D and I need a way to trigger it remotely. RF would be preferred but not uber expensive is a requirement as well. What are my options?

RF-602 from DealExtreme or ebay would do the trick

I use a Photix (sp?). It isn't IR, so it does not require line of sight, and it has a long range. I believe I purchased this from ebay.

Inexpensive, works great for me.

Same. It's a great remote.
