As a newcomer to the wedding photography arena, I am curious where you get the majority of your leads from? Some likely things I can think of are past client referrals, Craigslist, and facebook. I am just tyrhing to determine where I should invest my time first.

Thanks!

word of mouth - best type of advertising. doesn't cost you a cost and you get more jobs.

facebook - make a fan page, post images, keep potential clients updated on what you're doing or planning to do (future products etc etc). If you have the money, place ads on the right sidebar, it will take some time but it will provide leads from potential clients.

don't do craigslist. They're looking for the cheapest photographer. You don't want to shoot for people like that.

I agree with turbo all of my weddings are word of mouth and 90% of my portraits and 100% of my boudoir shoots. Now that said if you haven't done many its hard to get those. I haven't tried facebook or those and not sure I want to but a local publication or some of the wedding venues. I have three venues in the area that have a small portfolio of mine that they show people looking for at the venues. I have also provided one place with a great shot I took at their facility (large and framed) which they hung up that has brought in much more than the cost of the picture.

I have to disagree with the don't do Craiglist. If you do not have a port and you need to develop one then CL could be a starting point.

If you have a good port then that is a different story:)
