Ditto.

In post #5 above eigga says he uses the same Manfrotto bracket that you and I use. You can also see the subtle shadow pattern behind the players' feet from the high-mount flash instead of the monster shadow that appears when you clamp low.

Man, I totally missed that! I even read that post, too. Time to go to the eye doctor.

Well the simple reason is I shoot for MaxPreps and the require flash.

The reason I would do it anyway is for faces. Regardless what the lighting is like for night football you almost never get light inside the helmet... and my experience is faces sell better.

I think that could be said for A LOT of good pictures...my job is to make the pictures better than what you see in most cases. But I do understand its not for everyone and respect that as well.

I don't disagree with anything you've said. Again, the shots are great. I just have a hard time getting past the 'glowing' look of everything when flashed. Tried it a couple of times and haven't come close to the original shots posted in this thread. They are the best I've seen.

One of my main points was asking if anyone has considered dropping the saturation on the images to see if they looked any more realistic and not quite so luminous.

Actually, I do have a lower saturation setting for my night flash. Not sure if lowering it more would help or not but will try it out. Thanks for the kind words!

Yes, I mount the flash above camera with the 223B ...

I covered two games with the flash underneath and it was not for me because.....
-I hated the "Alfred Hitchcock" shadows
- and I prefer to be on my knees or almost sitting which is imposibble with underneath flash.

Well done Matt. You did something very interesting that I am shocked hasn't received a comment. The super low shooting angle on the first virtually eliminates any chance of shadowing. Great idea.

Thanks Scott, I thought it helped a lot with shadows too. It sure is tough on the legs though.

Good job. I like how you got your camera lower to their eye-level.

Can you shoot vertically with the 223 or do you crop to verticle?

I mount the 233 bracket and the monopod to the lens' ring mount... then loosen the ring a little so I can easily rotate the body between horizontal and vertical while keeping the flash mounted above. Works great.

Great images Matt. You mentioned that you are using the 223B bracket. Does it allow you to shoot vertically or do you shoot in the horizontal mode and crop vertically. Most of my soccer shots are vertical and would love to continue to shoot that way. However, I need a good bracked for night sports. Thanks and again, very nice work.

Whoops...too much multitasking. Thanks again. I'll be trying the combo out tonight on soccer.
