Saturday HS Football - Daylight!!!

I finally got the opportunity to shoot a daytime football game. I have to say I loved it! These are just the 3 I picked out. I might get used to these daytime games; I have another one this coming Saturday too!

great timing on #3. Sometimes, you are where you are and that's the image you get. Nothing wrong with it. I like the shot even though no face, no number. The kid catching the ball knows it's him!

Thanks Dave! I'm glad you do like it. I wasn't sure because I didn't get a face or number.

Yeah, its kind of just being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I usually stand behind the end zone when they get inside the 20, but I decided to stand by the back corner. But I like it nonetheless! I actually have 2 more from this catch where he has caught it and is falling to the ground. I love the 8.5 fps of the 1D2 just for this reason!

Just a quick question: does #1 look over-sharpened to anyone?

I tried a new sharpening process, and not sure how well it works...
So far I like it, but its hard to gauge for me if its too much, not enough, or just right. I used a high pass filter on a duplicated layer, adjusting layer opacity to adjust the amount of sharpening applied.

Any feedback that would help me get better at this would be greatly appreciated! I'm the kind of person who would rather have some good constructive criticism, than a bunch of "Nice shots!" Not that I don't mind those, but they don't help me get better. Thank you!

IMHO, yes. My gauge is always the grass/turf in the DoF. If it has black pixels and/or looks painful to walk on, like razor blades, then I think it's over-sharpened.

Likewise for NR... if the grass looks like melted plastic... too much NR.

Plus, why is the purple so noisy? What ISO. Noise looks like ISO 3200 but it's in the middle of the day.

I am gonna guess since these are shot backlit that midtones with shadow and highlights were used in pp creating noise in the shadow. Need to overexpose when shooting backlit to keep the face out of the dark....

I don't think there is any noise...these were shot at ISO 200. So, it maybe oversharpened texture in the fabric? It shouldn't be any noise.

I didn't use any shadow/highlights adjustment. I shot these in Av, +2/3 to try and overexpose for the faces. Not sure what is going on if that is noise...
