Hi all,

So I had a conversation the other day and was told original metadata can be striped from an image. I didn't think it could.... So I want to know if it can?

Sure it can - there are a number of programs that allow editing of metadata - and just about any resource editor can remove metadata.

Thanks Mark, so how does that work with copyright in our images then. What I mean is, how can I prove in court that an image is mine if everything can be striped?

Register the image with your national copyright office, keep a copy of the original with the metadata intact, etc. That way you have the original file and data to prove your case.

Mark is right metadata can be stripped or even edited. It is not even a mildly difficult process. "Save for web" in photoshop does this as you save the image.

The only legal proof is as he mentioned, a registered image. Everything else is just heresay. Even mailing your self a copy in a sealed envelope ( long called poor mans copyright) is not legal proof of anything other than that the post office stamped an envelope.

Yes, that's the only thing the court will accept. They won't even entertain any other "evidence."
