fookin rights... this is awesome news.... lets just hope this update comes out sooner rather then later..... if an update like this IMO is at all indicative of how long the 5D Mark II is going to stick around before the Mark III.... which looks like atleast a couple of years!

CAN YOU SEE THE LIGHT? >>>

From Canon Rumors:

http://www.canonrumors.com …mark-ii-firmware-release/ (external link)

"Coming Soon
The new firmware for the 5D Mark II will arrive the week of March 17, 2010. This seems to be close to the NAB show.
The information briefly appeared on the Canon UK web site, it’s now gone at the URL I was given.
Features
Live Histogram for Video
Sound Level Control
24p/25p
No word on 60fps yet.
I’ve also heard there may be sound level meters, count this feature as a CR2 rumor.
More info on the subject to come."

Awesome! I can't wait and I also hope this means it will be a little while before the mark III is released.

From the cinema5d forum >>>

"I got confirmation: The new firmware is already in the Tech Service centers since some weeks ago (maybe depending on each center, but some have it since 1st-2nd week of February)

But not allowed to update cameras until March 17th."

noob question alert: why would one want to record at 24, 25 and 29.97 over 30/60fps? I was under the impression that the higher the fps, the smoother the video would be?

If you use higher shutter speeds, then yes, it'll look better as you increase framerate. But shooting at 1/48s at 24fps is quite nice looking, since motion blurs together.

Looks like this isn't a rumor any more though
