Nice..... I assume JPG...and if so, what do you have the CFII-2 set at?

Nope, I shot it in RAW. I never use JPG. I imported using Lightroom 2.6, saved as a JPG.

Is this image cropped? Or has it just been resized? What else was done to it?

I had one series that had me pretty worried on AF but after some analysis at home I think it was user error....

ROF will always start with the center point and then allow focus to drift across other points. If youre using ROF, you need to make sure the subject is in the middle when you hit the button.

The D3 really stinks in low light. I've used them, and they hunt around and miss focus, or just never lock. The D3's AF system really isn't all that great. It works ok in daylight, but forget about it at night. If you want to increase your keepers with a D3, use your center point. But then you could just buy a 5D2 and do the same thing and save yourself a couple grand.

Guess I'm using a different camera then....but then what do I know as an available light shooting often using the camera in the dark never using the centre point......

Just seen this on the Nikongear forum
----
I had recently a possibility to shoot side by side with D3 and D3s cameras and noticed a slight differences in terms of AF performance between the cameras.

Looks like as D3s has some sort of thinking/hesisation when deciding on final focus in low light conditions, where D3 does not.

When shooting AF-S, single point and the lens was defocused and focused on some dark low contrast scene (center AF point) the way the D3s drove the lens was the following. Immediate drive from defocus postition to almost in focus, then a bit of hesisation (half a sec or bit more) then a bit of drive to final focus. This happens once a while on a low contrast subjects. Interesting part was that when I defocused the lens and tried this again on the same spot the lens focussed immediately without any slight hesistation before settling on final focus.

Putting the same lens on a D3 and those bits of hestitation in some situations are completely gone.

Interesting part was the this behavious was non existent when shooting on AF-C (continous) mode. Camera always went from defocused lens to focus at once without any bits of hesistation.

I would be gratefuls if any D3s owner could look a bit more wether they see this behaviour.

Any ideas ?
---------------

So I would say a lot probably has to do with settings, lenses and the user at the time.

I suspect that they are both darn good in low-light.

"The Chargers vs. Cowboys Leading Off picture was half of a vertical frame (cropped horizontally) shot at ISO 2500. The Packers vs. Cardinals Leading Off from two weeks ago was about one quarter of the frame at ISO 2500," said Miller.

The fact that you can crop that much and still have a magazine quality image at ISO 2500+ is pretty impressive.
