Yes the model is hot!

However the video contains one of my pet peeves...people pronouncing things WRONG!! I'm sorry, but it's NIKON as in N- (eye)-kon. (Sounds like "Kni (fe), or "NI(ght), NOT like "Knick-on" If it had 2 K's, then fine, it would be "Nick-on"

LOL Coincidently my pet peeve is the way (most) Americans mispronounce Nikon. ;)

radiohead wrote in post #9520043 (external link)
In Europe it's always the latter and never N- (eye)-kon.

My understanding is that that's also the case for Japan, and they should know I guess ;)

Well, that's closer (knick-on is actually how I say it too, though it's slightly wrong... knee-con is more correct. Though they're 95% the same). ;)

AdamJL wrote in post #9520136 (external link)
Nope. It's N(ee)kon.

Only you NAs say N(eye)kon.

That's the right way to say it. Ni-Ko-N or Knee... Co (as in Co-educational)... N and in (N)ice.

:)

Of course the CORRECT way to pronounce it is: ニコン

Does "ニコン" mean something particular or is it just a name; and how about "Canon", is that something like "The cherry trees blossom and the moon rises over Mount Fuji" in Japanese? :)

It's Katakana it's used to translate sounds but not meaning that much. It's used a lot for English words used by Japanese.
ニ = Ni
コ = Ko
ン = N

I learnt Japanese and Chinese at University.

Works great with indoor college gymnastics. Taken with the M4 and the legendary 200 1.8L EF lens.

Nice. My fist gym test is Sunday....can not wait.

Wish I had that 200 f1.8 or f2.0 lens....that's pretty amazing at f1.8 and ISO 5000. Now go level the horizon ;)

Went to test out the camera after work in NYC.

The links after each pic are to the 10MP version of the resized one.
Ran through my typical workflow with 3 pass Neat Image NR and high pass sharpening.

Comments:
  • ISO12800 is now the "emergency" ISO. Used to be ISO6400 on my MKIII, so I gain 1 stop. As far as compared to the 5DMKII, nothing really pops out at me as far as it being better or worse. No pattern noise or banding on the MKIV at ISO12800. I do noticed the typical color blotches however. Not a big issue.
  • AF Tracking was good. Used default settings. Tested against ice skaters and some yellow cabs. Will have to do more testing though.
  • Low light AF is similar to the MKIII. Infinitely better than the 5DMKII.

That's where I ended up as well ISO 12800 is usable but needs some help in post for noise. Doable, but lots of work. Seeing as I am coming off an MKIIn, I gained two stops!

Nice shots.....and the water still flows in NY huh? Ours is all stiff :)

Easy and reliable ISo12800 is more than possible for this camera. The results seem clear for me via DPP-route, but when it comes to the express-lane (from on-board .JPGs) that is, still, work-in-progress.

If there is a chance we can get those .JPGs with all their glory-and-pain, with all their beauty-and-ugly (with no "boobs" job while still on-cam), then we are in business.

Cheers,

PIX

As much as I like the 200 2.0 (I've shot with it many many times), the 200 1.8 still does the job for me. That extra 1/3rd of a stop has saved me many times! I can only imagine how well the 200 2.0 will respond on the M4 as the 2.0 is a very fast focusing lens!

Am I going to be able to find an update for CS3 to view and use these mk4 files, or will I have to either buy cs4 or use dpp/zb?
