For you that have big guns 500 f/4 you might want to read this ...

http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/862648 (external link)

Hate to hear that. I'll drag the 500 out and check it this weekend. I shot 3 basketball games last night about 2100 images. Initial results look very good. I was shooting with the 200 f/2 wide open and it did a dramatically better job of servo tracking than either my mkIIn or mkIII have been able to do. I'm pleased and will post samples when I get home and process them.

I have a very early mkIII, that has been thru the fixes, and my mkIII has always outperformed my mkIIn. So I'm ecstatic about the results I've seen.

The wife is bringing mine to the jobsite tomorrow! I will finally get to try it out! Woot Woot! After reading about the 500 f/4 occurance, I may have her throw the 600 f/4 IS in the car so I can give it a spin on the body as well. Not that there is a single creature around here that is sub-human.

Loving these Nick

Great job Nick!
I'm really wanting the 1D1V now. I wish I had the $$$ to buy one before my shows in the spring. I still LOVE my 1DIII, but the few extra MP and video would be so sweet.

I was pretty darn happy with my MKIII before I sold it so it's good to have a 1 series camera again.

I haven't done any meaningful tests at all, however my gut feeling is that it's about a stop better than the MKIII (Of course without any "fancy" NR applied!) and similar enough to my 5DMKII that nothing really jumped out at me to say otherwise except maybe the MKIV does not have the pattern noise/banding issues.

The AF system feels solid, but again, my MKIII did fine, so it's really nothing extraordinary for me except there are more AF points which is great. I'll still have to explore all the new features on it. Hopefully I'll get to test this weekend at my local park. (Ducks and Gulls unfortunately!)

Love the LCD screen. Just like my 5DMKII.

I think I have the perfect combo in the MKIV and 5DMKII. IQ is close. When I want the DOF control of FF or 21MP, I'll go with the 5DMKII. For action and low light I'll go with the MKIV.

On paid shoots, I'll have both with me getting even share of the action!

Thanks Nicksan, very informative post. Do you think there is a big difference in DOF on FF vs 1.3x crop?
.

There is, but I think it's close enough that I'll be able to use my gear interchangeably.

I like having the 24-70L on FF and the telephoto on the 1.3x crop, but my 24-70L feels fine on the 1.3x crop as well and something like my 200L definitely shines on a FF body. Sure, there's a difference, but not enough that it would completely turn things upside down.

I don't like my 24-70L on a 1.6x crop body, both FOV and IQ. That's why the 7D didn't work out for me because I didn't want to have to buy the EF-S 17-55...

I hate ti say it, but like Nicksan, I love the LCD Panel most of all! I can actually check focus on it. My friend has a D300 and has had this LCD available to him for over 18 months.,....sure took long enough.

I fired some bird shots off at lunch in the snow and the focus tracking is simply amazing.

For the record, at one point in time Helena, Montana, and the state as well, held the highest % of millionaires in the country..... Go figure.

Quite a few rednecks, but working close to the Canadian border. Thankfully none of those freaks have slipped across the border here. LOL

Yeah, initially I was quite embarrassed to admit that about the LCD because honestly I was just fine with the older ones. But compared to the LCD on the MKIII, it's just a delightful thing. It's one of those things where you night not really need it, but certainly get to appreciate once you have it.

You know, with the price of the MKIV, I kept on trying to convince myself to buy back a MKIII, but the LCD panel stopped me every single time.:o:o:o
