Has anyone compared results from DPP with other converters, especially ACR? I wonder other companies has had time to refine their wares as much as Canon. I suspect not (which may be why PhaseOne needs another month...).

Can you do me a favor and run the link that I provided you with. Then give me a link to the full size version. While the results are getting are pretty amazing, they are also resized so I want to see it in all its glory.

I've got Neat Image 5.9 Pro+ so all I need is the plugin from Pix.

Sure, Keep in mind these are 1D4 images running with FlexNR that uses 1D3 profiles based on it's 10MP sensor. The results are at best 75% of what you could expect using profiles based on the 1D4 sensor.

I tell ya what though, ISO12,800 here looks better than ISO3,200 on my 1DMk2(n).

I'm most concerned to know what the answer to this turns out to be. I know people with D3's who consistently produce remarkable results, and I'm not about to spend a fortune on something that is in any way inferior.

Was the D3 being used a straight D3 or a D3S?

From my tests the D3s and 1DIV are basically the same 12800iso and below. (I didn't test 25,600). The 1DIV has more noise, but NR can fix it. The D3s has less noise out of camera, but also less resolution, so pick your poison.

The D3s has less noise (I suspect it leaves NR on whether you like it or not). The 1Div has higher Resolution. If you add some NR to the 1DIV it matches a comparative sized D3s no problem.

However, the D3s doesn't really get much better after NR, in fact it tends to get a little soft with NR. That's why I suspect Nikon have left it on...

As far as other features go... both cams are great.

Just think if you need those MP or less Noise (though the Canon can match the D3s with a little work, the D3s doesn't need so much work... do you want flexibility or ease?).

Mainly it comes down to the lenses you've already got. ;)

I'll say it again.

Both cams are great!

To generalize I'd say the D3s is the better PJ/press camera, you get clean JPEG files in all situations that can be used right away and the image size is sufficient for any print.

The 1DIV takes a bit more work in post processing at higher ISOs but on the other hand you have more pixels to work with so in anything but the darkest situations you may gain resolution, and for a bird photographer or long tele sports photographer some cropping room is great. For me, considering both indoor sports in low, but not super low light, and long tele shots outdoors in normal bird photography light, I think the 1D Mark IV is a good compromise between pixels and noise.

But both are great - none of them limit what I as a mediocre photographer can achieve - and as the Ninja says: choose depending on what lenses you already have.

Nicksan, I loved the cat shots.
The last one ISO12k8 no flash, almost feels like it's just been tossed in there at the last minute to sya' oh and here's this one' and the noise is superb! lol.
I saw Seve Ballesteros playing golf once, and he hit the ball on the fairway maybe 250 yards or so. He didn't even watch where the ball went, he just turned round and nonchantly reached for the putter, as the balled rolled up to about 2 feet from the pin...
I get the same feeling about these 12k8 shots, lol.

I hit a golf ball 250 yards once - best slice ever. I nonchalantly turned around to get another ball :D

n.b. Seve is still a legend.

Posted this earlier with no response... Any current mk4 owners know the answer?

Hey there... Just got my 1D Mk4, and was trying to find the Codec plug-in so I could view my RAW thumbnails... (Right now my files are denoted as blank white icons). The latest RAW codec I could find is:
rc160upd-7l.exe

But it doesn't indicate support for the mk4... I downloaded and installed it to no avail...

BTW- I'm using a PC, Vista 32-Bit.

Thanks!
