Yeah, that number you see after the 100- is carried over from previous camera you used the card in AFAIK. So it's not an actual shutter count.

It would be sweet if cameras had something sort of like an odometer on them. Well, then again maybe not if you are a seller :)

GBRandy, you are happy with your 1D4 so far? Glad you waited?

Btw, it looks like cats are the new "ducks" on this forum

So far I am quite pleased. It is early, but the quirky things I grumped about on the MKIII all appear to be gone.

It was pretty hard to wait. I know what that MKIII can do at 6400 ISO and it is excellent....it would have been of some great help to me. To look at others images knowing that could work for me was tempting....and why I tried four freakin' times to give it a go. I guess I am either completely moronic when it comes to focusing or the unluckiest guy in the world (or both). Maybe my MKIIn was just better than most....who knows.

Sunday's gymnastics meet will really tell the tale. I am not looking for perfection, just consistency. The details and nuances of great images will come with time and understanding the settings. Getting things framed and focused is paramount.

Are you going to get an MKIV? I know you love that MKIII you have.

I finally got to play with mine today. Initial testing shows no issues with my 600 f/4 IS in servo. I haven't found anything extremely fast and super challenging, but so far so good. What a camera! As soon as the cat comes out from under the bed, I will get the required photos. LOL

I think you made a wide decision. I really like the MkIV and it's definitely a better camera than the MkIII. I really want the video option more than anything. With that said, I'm not sure I can afford the $3000+ premium it will cost me to upgrade. Maybe after the shows I shoot this spring it will be another story.

I am very impressed with the jpgs that I am getting out of this camera. I have always shot RAW, however, I thought I would try jpgs the last studio session.

I shot large jpg with auto light optimizer on standard and I must say I did not have to make any adjustments to the images apart from cropping.

I think I may start shooting more jpeg.

Is this with the latest firmware?

Yes, I received the camera with 1.06 already installed on it.

That 85 sure is an incredible lens for portraits!

I'm sure it's not too far from perfection, but how does your 85mm handle on the MkIV?

The 85L handles much better on the MK4 than on my MK3 -- the keeper rate has been so much higher from the get go. I spent alot of time microadjusting it on the MK3 trying to improve the keeper rate. I have done no microadjustments on the MK4. The best way to describe the AF on the MK4 is that it just feels more confident/stronger.

I would agree with that as well.... The focus lacks the "jitters" some of the MKIII's I tried displayed.

Perhaps it is just new ownership bias, but it seems the 85 f1.2 is faster to focus using the MKIV than the my MKIIn.
