I got my 1Dmk IV today.

What are best settings for birding?

vmaidens@gmail.com wrote in post #10751376 (external link)
If you search back in this thread I think there is a post to the best settings.

I'm using them so I know I got them somewhere on here :)

LOL...very helpful advice when there are 5300+ posts in the thread (so far).

Still, I'd expect someone who bought a 1DMk IV to be able to find a way to get the exposure and depth of field they want. (Then again, it isn't beyond the realm of possibility that some people would buy a 1D as their very first camera body - certainly many have admitted to the frustration of figuring out their 7D and 5DMk II cameras bought as their first non point & shoot camera).

As a (digital) "newbie", I have to ask...would a 1DMk IV have a different combination of ideal "birding" settings than any other camera body? (with normal daylight ISO)? Where does the model number of a body come into play when trying to get a proper exposure???? What am I missing? I've been using light meters for the better part of 6 decades, but never saw anything that had any relevance on a meter to the type of camera body or the size of a sensor (or size of film used)......Of course since digital is "new" to me, I'm afraid I'm missing something really big here1

;):D:D:D

Peace,
D.

Wow, what a nice picture! You must have a really great camera!

Actually I think he was referring to the AF settings ("bird in flight") not the exposure...:)

Ahah! Sounds good to me - If I knew more about high end digital camera bodies, and auto-focus, etc....I might even understand what that means! LOL

Peace,
D.

dariusz, really liking the rally/moto pics. Were those shot in Ireland? I met a guy from there and he lives way out in the sticks and said when it's rally season they race right in front of his property. He's so thrilled about that, I was green with envy
