Hi

Anybody tried using a wifi enabled SD card in this thing yet? It's a lot cheaper than the wirelss attachement so just wondered if it work at all.

Thanks

Mike

Works fine for wireless tethering though I only transmit small jpg's with it.

I used my Eye-Fi X2 Pro last weekend for the first time with my iPad at an event, had shots streaming live to my iPad as people were coming out of the ring. I was shocked at the response and instant sales.

I think it'll be part of my regular kit now.

Be even better when they enable direct transfer from the Eye-Fi x2 Pro... wish they'd hurry that up. Also for iPhone users.... ISO4.3 promises personal hotspots which should be another great solution as a wireless router between card and iPad.

Never heard of such a thing. Could one of you post a link for the uninformed among us please? Sounds like a great idea!

Thanks,
Tom.

Exactly, having to have a router in the middle is a bit of a pain, but easy enough to do. Huge wow factor to people for sure, I had a gathering of people watching me shoot and wanting to buy right then and there. Nice to not have to hand out so many cards and have people pre-pay for post prod shots :)

Here's the best place to start on how to do it.

if you go to a pro model it does ad-hoc linking so no router required!

Eye-Fi works great for me also.
I use it for small jpg

I wanted to test immidiate uploads to smugmug. That was solved by using a small wifi/3G router and a 3G modem. It works but it's still fairly slow.

Of course you could use you mobile phone if it has enabled hotspot functionality...

However you get good speed if you just settle for file transfer through a local wifi router and then to a wifi/cable attached laptop.

BTW I tested the ad-hoc linking with my Lenovo and that was a real pain.
Didn't like that setup ...or perhaps my Lenovo didn't like ;)

Nice to hear that it seems to work great with the iPad as hotspot

I'll have to figure this all out somehow. I have a PDA msartphone so must be able to use that somehow to transmit it. Might try getting a pro model for the adhoc functionality and give it a whirl

True and fine for hooking up to a laptop but the iPad does not support adhoc networks so no go there. As I mentioned this will change with an Eye-Fi firmware update due out shortly ie. it will be able to create it's own wireless hotspot.

I don't have an iPad so fortunately that doesn't effect me, yet. But if it creates it's own wireless hotspot does that mean any card can create ad-hoc?
I read an can connect to many hotspots around.

I kindly request that we keep the eye-fi discussions on a different post, like THIS ONE, so that we can keep this thread on topic about the 1D4 and its image?

It is a great product, I am using it (one of the things that I was excited about going to the 1D again after a 2 year absence), but we could talk all day about that product. ;)
