Okay that sounds good. I wasnt sure if it was against policy to put a price higher than what i paid for it, but I guess it also depends on the policy. Either way, I will pay the cost for the insured price. Thanks!

Should the "new" price be considered better for me over the "used" to insure it as? Because the camera is technically discontinued?

I am not an insurance agent, but I would think since you are insuring your camera for damage from dropping, or theft or whatever, it should not matter what you paid for it, as stated before, insure it for replacement cost. This is another question you should ask your insurance agent/family member.

You really want to avoid putting equipment on your homeowners or renters as a claim will adversely effect that policy. Make sure you get a stand alone policy.

I have auto thru geico and I called them up and they said they could do personal property insurace of 10k for $108/yr with a $100 deductible. This would fall under renters insurance though, which I don't have. It's just what this type of coverage is called for geico. Cover my stuff anywhere for anything. I asked if they needed pics or reciepts etc and they said it's more of a blanket policy up to that amount but to take pics and write down serial numbers just in case.

Does this sounds like the right insurance? I havnt puchasex it yet.

Sounds pretty much like what I have. My personal property policy is attached to my property policy like you are saying. Mine is $5,000 of coverage for $78/yr but with a $0 deductible and it's an all-risk type policy.

FWIW I would second what other's have stated. I really suggest people even if it's just a hobby don't attach the camera gear to the home owners policy (lots of folks do but it's dumb, making claims on your homeonwners policy is not a good idea unless it's really a big time serious thing with the house).

We have a policy through Hill & Usher (external link) which has created a pretty great collection of insurance that is through the Hartford. My wife runs more of the business end of things (afterall she's the one with the finance degree) so I'm not 100% on the specifics but I believe we have a $1M general business liablity policy with $100K in Errors & Omissions coverage it also covers all of our camera gear, etc. (we have about $45K in camera gear). We have been really happy with our interactions with Hill & Usher and have had this policy for about three years now... I talked to our local insurance agent who sold policies through the Hartford and they couldn't match or get close to the package that Hill & Usher were selling and they told us that Hill & Usher must have some special arrangements setup with the Hartford as they sell enough specific policies for professional photographers.

Home my rambling is at least somewhat helpful...
