From another forum (not MY thread; 2007):

Had the 100. Then bought the 135 and the 85- and sold the 100, regrettably. I agree with Ronald. Get the 100mm and walk a little. The photos from the 85 always seem boring; why I don't know. The 135mm is a great lens, but put a lense hood on it and it's like pointing a bazooka at someone. I think the 100mm 2 is underated.

Just to add to the confusion...
I opted for both the 85/1.8 and 135/2, and I decided the 100 wasn't needed if I had both of those. The 135/2 is one of the best Canon lenses ever. I don't regret my decision at all.

Still want to flip the 85 and 135 for a 100...

C'mon dude. You show one photo and you crop it to what looks like at least 200% and you expect amazing detail?? Here is an image I took with the 50D and 100mm F2.8L cropped to 100%.

For a 100% crop this is an amazing amount of detail IMO. Especially for my first attempt at a BIF.

I’ve had the 100L for about two weeks now, and although it won’t take the place of my 85L or 135L as a portrait lens, in addition to using it as a macro lens; I plan on using it as my go to short telephoto walk around/event prime.

The sharpness and color/contrast of the 100L is excellent, and IMO the bokeh is very good (especially for a macro). The background blur may not be as good as the 85L and 135L, but it’s better than any of my L zooms at comparable apertures and focal lengths.

Here is a comparison between the 135L and the 100L (I hate charts)

1Ds III/100L/f2.8/ 1/160:

Here’s a macro/portrait I took just messing around:

I’m positive this lens will be popular with event photographers as well as for use as a macro lens.

first is 100% crop for the pixel peepers. second is the full image resized to fit here.

shot with 7D from raw file, straight into photoshop, nothing at all done whatsoever except resize/crop, which will be the same as all my

pics
.

ISO 250, 2.8, 1/160th with IS on, HANDHELD. (i wanted to test how good the IS is). Oh, and it's shot at about 1.5 feet from

front of lens. I LOVE THE ROUND OOF HIGHLIGHTS ON THIS LENS!

distance 1:1
. i manually racked the focus ring to the closest then moved out ever so slightly until i got center in focus, then click!
