Im thinking of purchasing one and wanted to know peoples thoughts that own one... I would just like to have a good walkaround lense and the 28-135 looks like it would work for me... Any complaints on this lense?

Thanks,
Jason

I wouldn't recommend it as a walk-around for a 1.6x crop camera, but that's just me. I used one with my 5D for a short time. It's okay. It's certainly inferior to the 24-105 in terms of IQ and built. But the thing that annoyed me most about it was zoom-creep. If you can afford it go for the 24-105. In a pinch the 28-135 will do the job.

On crop it sucks... its too long on the wide end, and too slow and soft on the long end. I'd definitely not recommend it. On film it was a great lens, light, versatile, good FF range, and IS didn't hurt.

I've had one for a couple of years and it's not too bad, it wasn't wide enough for me though and a bit slow, I replaced it with a Sigma 17-70

I really like this lens, esp the IS. No lens creep either. Very sharp.

I like mine too. Gives me a good reach on my crop. 216mm.

Never used it. I chose the 28-105 instead because it was smaller, lighter, less expensive, and faster on the long end. Trade off was that it is 30mm shorter and no IS.

Image quality was decent and I have heard that the 28-135 is just a hair better. Unlike the others, I think 28-105/135 is an acceptable range on a crop camera. I'm even thinking of going back to that range with the 24-105.

I loved it until I outgrew it and now can't wait to get my hands on a 24-70...if only the used market hadn't followed the price hike in the new market....boo

I like mine for portraits now. It was my walk around when it was my only lens. The new 18-135 might be better.

I don't find anything wrong with it.

There seems to be an irrational negativism for it here on this forum.

It's a good lens, sharp, and excellent on the 5D, for example.

I had one a while back, got it when I got my first DSLR (350D/XT) I thought it was an alright lens. It worked well and took fairly good images. After a few years of learning and saving I traded up for the 24-105. It seems most people who buy this lens eventually end up one of the 24-xx.

If you are just getting into photography or your budget cant afford something else I like it, its got a useful FL and the IS helps a lot. My demands just went up...
