Hyperthreading will be good. It's about time Apple intro'd a quad core machine. Looks like their RAM prices have dropped a bit, too (but still high). And with either a LED 22" or 27" H-IPS display with no price change. And up to 16 GB RAM and 2 TB hard drive. A nice upgrade. "Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

I hope it has as good of function as the trackpads on their laptops. That would be really cool. "Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

I hope I'm wrong and they are making it thicker to support desktop class chips for once, but likely not happening. I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.

Verdict so far: the new iMacs as a whole are still using two year old specs, and the lower end ones are now three years in terms of specs. If you are getting one, wait for the i5/7 version, if not, just buy the old refurbs. Do we know for sure if it is the mobile i7 or the desktop version?

The mobile version would be a total bust. There's only one 2.8 ghz i7 and that's the Lynnfield (4-core, 8-thread desktop cpu) Nehalem. That's rather surprising since Apple has used mobile cpus in the iMacs since the switch to Intel processors. R.Perez wrote in post #8859671 I would also want to know what the deal with Ram would be. Does it use regular DDR3 desktop ram or notebook ram? Also how hard to upgrade? DDR3 SO-DIMMs in all likelihood. Looks like there are now 4 slots instead of 2, which also fits more with a desktop lobo and cpu (but probably meaningless). But there's actually more if you consider maximum speed like most companies are doing now... i7 720QM is 2.8gh if you include the turboboost speed. Looks like Intel now has E8635 chips on top of the E8435, but that also boosts the likelyhood of an clarksfield type mobile core i5 or i7 with some overclocking in the numbers (due to similar TDW). Oct 20, 2009 19:37 | #15 t5Nitro wrote in post #8861271 Right now I use a macbook pro (new style). Does anyone use both an iMac and a macbook pro? The speed of the new iMac look appealing. The MBP does not need any more speed but I think the big screen would be nice to have. Is it a major difference to get the $1999 27" over the $1699 27"? They look similar except the more expensive of the two is quad core? I'm not so great with computers so any tips appreciated. Anyone else getting one? Worth the money to go from a MBP to it for at home editing? go with the quad core, and the i7 one at that IMO.
