Hi guys
Yes I know there's whole bunch of 1dmk4 threads already, so it won't hurt to have another one :)
I'm just back for today's 1dmk4 presentation they had here in Slovenia for few selected pros. There's no need to lose words on presentation itself, since we all agreed that it could be done with one single slide and 5 words... "AF is working this time". That's what we all wanted to know. Anyway... after first half hour of talk, we actually got camera in our hands. There was not enough chances to do any serious testing, next to that this was pre-production camera, which had card doors taped, so there was no chance to get your own card there, and there was Canon guy standing next to it all the time, so it would be useless to even try.
This presentation was on indoor carting place, so we actually had very small chance to see it work in kinda real life conditions. Iso6400 looks pretty nice, at least on camera LCD, and iso3200 looks better then iso 800 on mk2.... once again on LCD screen. Ergonomy is pretty much same as mk3, with menus very very similar if not same, and with exactly same button's position as with mk3. Shutter feels a bit different, and it's pretty cool, since it gives you more control. There are few other pretty cool things with af, for example rotation of af point if you put camera from horizontal to vertical etc.
Now main question... does af works? I don't know.... with 200/2 and with pretty slow go carts coming at you (light was everything but great, iso6400, f2.8, 1/500sec), it was working ok. But this is far from place and/or time to see if it really works. So there's really no way to tell if it works or not. Based on discussion I had with one of Canon guys, they took their job seriously this time. Last time they didn't, and he admit this. Now they knew it's their last chance, so they said they took it seriously, with few 100 pro shooters all over the world testing this camera for more then 2 months. I hope result will be good. But we will see this in few weeks. Camera should be out end of November, beginning of December and price should be under 4500eur.
Well... that's about it. :)

I'm good, but not THAT good

PS: For those without joke detector... I'm joking, at least in first part of above statement. I don't consider myself as gods gift, and no I don't consider myself anywhere near top 100 shooters on World either ;)

There was no list price announced today. Only statement was "it should be way under 4500eur for you guys". So we will see in month how it will really be :)
Otherwise our vat is 20%.

Primoz - I've followed a lot of your posts and shots over the years and what I'm dying to know is -
What does your gut tell you?

Thanks, Primoz.

And you're right - that is the big question - "Does the AF work this time?"

I think it will work very well.

What my gut tells me? I don't know... We (me and rest of guys in our agency) need new cameras... badly. So I don't know if this is gut or I just wish it so much, but I have feeling it will work. In my opinion, and also based on this what I was talking with Canon people today, Canon know they can't play anymore, and that this is their last chance, if they want to stay in pro business. So I have feeling they did their job this time, and camera will be great.
If I'm right, and first short hand-ons looks like I am, we are back into old days... Canon being way superior again. And personally I think it's bad thing, since they will start to behave same as they did 3 years ago. I doubt they learned their lesson. But I hope I'm wrong with this one, and they did learn their lesson :)

Cool :)

I've wanted a 1D body for a while now, and this looks like it will complement the 5DII very nicely. I don't think i'll have any need for whatever the 1Ds IV will be; and won't be able to justify the cost for a good couple of years from what I make out of taking pictures, if then unless something very dramatic suddenly happens with work and my life
