I have read that you can shoot raw+jpeg with it. I did find the option in the custom functions, but when i take a pic it doesnt show up on the computer when i download the pics to my computer. Is there somewhere else on the camera that has to be changed for it to work? I know there is still some 10D users out there or some that have exp. with the 10D. any response will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Grady

Hi Grady,

Congratulations on you new purchase!

Windows doesn't display the contents of RAW files. You will need to use Canon's ZoomBrowser program (which is bundled with Canon cameras) to be able to view the RAW files. If you don't have ZoomBrowser, try downloading Picassa which lets you view and edit Canon RAW files.

Good Luck!

There's a plugin for Windows that will allow it to see the RAW files in the camera...

Better yet is to pick up a card reader for 15 bucks.... Then you'll have access to everything.

I am using canon zoombrowser program i can see raw files it doesnt show the jpeg file that i shot with it. I use Photoshop CS4 to edit and Canons DPP. Its supposed to shoot raw and a jpeg simultaneously, but when i download the the pics the raw files are the only ones that come up. Sorry if i wasnt clear before.

I recall the DP Review 20D review (external link) noting, with obvious joy, that the 20D RAW+JPEG combo produced an actual JPEG, rather than a "JPEG embedded into the RAW file." How one would go about getting the JPEG out of a 10D RAW, I don't know.

The easiest solution would be to shoot in RAW only and use DPP to produce JPEGs.

no waste of time involved... getting questions answered is one of the primary reasons for the forum - the answers are almost always useful (and frequently entertaining)

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

stop transferring files by cable - spend $20 and get a card reader, raw will show up as files in windows, but you have to use DPP or photoshop or some software that can handle raw files.

I do use a card reader and the raw files are the ones that show up, My problem was when I want to shoot RAW + JPEG simultaneously, just the Raw files show up. There fore I decided to just shoot Raw for stuff im trying to be creative, and just shoot jpeg when its family gatherings.

Actually tradition here is you take a picture of a duck and post it here. Apparently no duck => no luck, and your camera will stop functioning in a few months... I'm sure a forum search for "duck luck" will give you sufficient info  ...
