My first step into DSLR was the 10D (my daughter still uses it).

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I have a battery grip and Kirk L-plate that can be had at very reasonable price. PM if interested. Mark

Dec 04, 2009 18:47 | #22 I have Zoombrowser and DPP AND I also have Adobe Photoshop CS4. The 10D book states I can shoot raw+jpeg simultaneously, but I have to download the driver from the canon website which I havent done yet. But anyway I decided just to shoot raw when Im trying to be creative and shoot jpeg when doing family things. and i just wont worry about that anymore. Canon 5D MK III Gripped

The camera obviously does shoot RAW + Jpeg but I have no idea where it stores the Jpeg. I think it is embedded in the RAW file but you can't extract it using the DPP or Raw Image Task without converting and saving the RAW file as a Jpeg. Can anybody else help on this one as it is a lot of hassle to convert and save as Jpeg if it can't be easily extracted from the RAW file? As I mentioned earlier, it appears that only the 20D and later models create separate JPEG and RAW files. The only solution is to upgrade to a 20D or better or start using Lightroom 2 to convert the RAWs. Gear list

Dec 26, 2009 23:33 | #25 Well there is a custom fn. for raw+jpeg to shoot, but you need the drivers for the 10D for the files to show up when you download pics to your computer. I just decided to shoot raw when Im trying to be creative or want full-control of the image. And just shoot jpeg at family events. Thats my 2 cents. I have photoshop cs4 and digital photoshop professional too. Canon 5D MK III Gripped

This has the option in the File menu to extract and save the Jpeg but it wouldn't let me select it on my Vista OS PC (it was grayed out in the menu). So I then installed a program called Viewer Utility which was the replacement for File Viewer Utility. This lets me extract and save the Jpeg!
