I am not sure that it makes sense to have it attached to your homeowners insurance. I have a separate policy. If I have a claim on the camera, I surely do not want it effecting the larger dollar homeowners insurance. Mine is separate.

And I am assuming since the agent is the one that told you that then anything to the contrary we might say would be meaningless.

Of course, the theory there is that the agent understands it exactly the same way the lawyers and underwriters do. I'll bet money that the primary reason insurance companies get sued by policyholders is because the true extent of coverage was not quite accurately explained by the agent, or the policyholder read the policy somewhat differently from what the lawyers intended and didn't ask the agent for clarification.

Just remember for theft from your car the vehicle must have physical damage to be covered. My daughter had her laptop and Ipod stolen but since there was no broekn windows ( car windowes are easy to slip a wire past to unlock doors) the stuff was not covered luckly her camera and lenses were in the house.

The official answer to my question is yes, there is a State Farm standalone policy for personal camera equipment. It can't be used for pro equipment. It is an all-risks, no deductible policy that covers the equipment anywhere in the world where you happen to be. I am in the underwriting process at the moment with an agent in New Jersey and will post the exact name of the policy so those interested in talking to a State Farm agent can refer to it by the precise language SF uses.

is it different in every state? I went to my local state farm agent here in Florida and they told me they can't insure any of my gear.

It may be different from state to state, but I got different answers from different State Farm agents in the same state. Try a different agent.

I'm pretty sure it will be different state to state. Some agents may not want to bother with it, so they just say they won't insure it.

for an update on this, not only it's different state to state but different agent to agent. I tried to contact another state farm agent and i can get a policy from them for $175/yr up to $12K.

Hi did you happen to find the SF language needed to get the standalone policy? I called an agent and they said I need a homeowners insurance.

I have the binder, which refers to it as a Personal Articles Policy. I'm waiting to receive the policy itself. That will have all the SF form numbers, I hope.

I have my camera gear insured with Statefarm under a personal articles policy for professional use.

Cost me around $1.80 US per $100 US equipment value (if it wasn't for professional use, it's around $1.20 per $100).

Covers pretty much everything except for my camera gear being destroyed by a nuclear bomb or by rodents  . I'm not sure about international coverage though, I think it is only valid within the USA.

I hold no other policies with Statefarm, only the personal articles policy. Was a very easy painless process to get the gear insured.

The title of the policy is Personal Articles Policy. The form number is FP-7940.2. The declarations page form number is FP-7073C. Hope this helps anyone else looking for this coverage.

No deductible!!?? I need to have a chat with my SF agent...I have the same policy (personal articles) but mine has a $500 deductible with $12,000(+/-) in coverage.

I just got setup on a Personal Articles Policy. I already had renters and car insurance through them, so I talked with my agent about options.

The pricing was $1.27 per $100 of camera gear a year, for NON-PROFESSIONAL use. They even covered my camera bag and filters incase everything gets stolen. There is also no deductible on this plan..
