Of course I like to get out there for the Cherry Blossom Festival. But I was thinking I would like to take some shots down there during the color change. Have any of you been there lately? Have the leaves started to change yet?

yes the leaves outside my house have changed colors (DC Suburbs), some trees are glowing orange/red right now with almost all the leaves intact.

if your coming from PA i suggest you also take a drive along the skyline drive for shennendoa scenery

CC welcome.

Not sure about downtown but, like joooowan said, the leaves in the 'burbs are changing fast. I'm looking forward to the Shenandoah this weekend.

krb I hope you read this cause it could save you a lot of time and gas. Apparently those three days of high winds and arctic temperatures we had did a number on the trees on the northern end of Skyline Drive. I just went out there today and everything is brown from Front Royal to Route 33 (Swift Run). There is some bright color south of that point for about 20 miles but then the leaves start to fade again. I can't report on the Blue Ridge Parkway because I didn't go down that far. Good luck... -RH-

Not skyline, Shenandoah. The gingko trees at the arboretum are hitting peak in the next couple days.

I don't have the time to go all the way out to skyline drive anyway.

Any more word on the Tidal Basin?

I'm about 10 blocks from there in downtown DC (2 blocks from NASM) and the leaves on the nearby trees have got good colour.

OMG, that place is to me what heroin is to a junkie!

How is you don't find yourself spending all your free time there?

Where is this place? Any other good place to visit/shoot for fall foilage in northern VA?

Thanks

  1. We're trying to drive you to distraction as you keep coming back looking for them
  2. We want you to come down here and show us how
  3. There's a strange field emanating from Milepost 0 that paralyzes all cameras that get near it
  4. The rain we've been having washed all the leaves off the trees
  5. The rain we've been having washed all the trees off the ground
  6. The rain we've been having washed all the photographers out of the District
