They look like vine fields to me Richard. The patterns caused by the vine supports. The accuracy that goes into the positioning has to be seen to be believed.

I don't know what the view is called, but if you stand in the correct position and look along the lines of the stakes and traverse your head you see straight lines every few degrees. Chains are used in France for the positioning because they don't stretch.

Yes I'd assumed that.
They are set out to precision here too and I've done that with oak trees for truffles.

This photo really has a lot going for it.
