Hi Win - yes, I agree that the clearbags are certainly much..... clearer :D. We see them a lot locally at fairs and exhibits, typically with matted photos being displayed on tables or bins.

I had considered using them for presentation as they hardly degrade the image at all - making sure you don't see glare from the shiny surface - but I don't know of any way to keep them organizied in a compact portfolio book like the Itoya. And with no support, there is always the hazard of creasing and bending

It certainly is a trade off. The Itoya pages do have that non-glare (less clear) surface, but your prints will be well protected in those books.

That doesn't sound good!

I think the clarity is fine. I do most of my prints on Metallic paper and the sleeve does degrade the image a bit. I usually end up sliding out any that people show interest in. The Clearbags are thinner and there is a lot less "degrading".

Win

I was just about to ask this question. Bummer. The marketing copy of Itoya says "crystal clear" but it sounds like it's not quite that good.

Is there any way, any product to display actual prints in a book-type portfolio that does have really clear page / print protectors?

Morning Dan :D.

Yeah - that's true. I would say that it's quite clear, but definately NOT crystal clear. I would liken it to plain old window glass vs. non-glare glass. The non-glare (Itoya pages) won't show reflections, but there is a very slight dulling when it raises up from the surface of the print.

Thanks, Stu. You're always helpful.

Actually that don't sound as bad as I thought. I thought were were talking those frosty-appearing page protectors like at Office Depot.

Window glass clarity is just fine with me. I found out a dirty little secret a while back. I started building my own frames, and when searching for local sources of people to cut the glass for me, I found out that the majority of professional framing shops around here put standard, old window glass in their frames and get it from the same places you buy a replacement window for your house. So window glass-level clarity is just fine with me.

Just received my first Itoya. It's the pro 13 x 19. Much better than anything I've had in the past. Yes, 70 bucks is a lot considering it's just a notebook with a few page protectors. But it does make one appear more professional, and that's what it's all about. Thanks for the tip.

Congrats on the Itoya Dan - they are quality products. At the price you paid, is that the zippered portfolio?

You'll probably want to spit though with what I have to say now. I just got an email from Utrecht.com as I'm on their mailing list (and they are my source for the Itoya) - here is the basic info:

Save 25% - Good Friday 11/27 Thru Monday 11/30!

Visit Utrecht.com (external link) this weekend to take advantage of Sitewide Savings! In addition to our already amazing holiday prices you'll save 25% off your entire purchase of non-sale items as well. This is a web-only promotion and will not be available in stores.

Exclusive to our email list! This weekend we'll be offering sitewide savings to customers who spend $100 or more, but you will have no minimum purchase. Just another benefit of being on our email list!

I have to restock on the books myself, so plan to take advantage of this offer. Their Black Friday kecode is: BlkFri25

Aarrrgggg! ;) That's ok. I had to order some printer paper in the same shipment which they don't carry.

No, no zippered. In fact, I priced them online at many different vendors and I don't believe that I saw anybody offering a zippered version. If Itoya make a metal-zippered version, that would be nice. If plastic, tho, I would pass. Plastic zippers always give me problems.
