Looks pretty good at this size. I'd crop out the entire left side. If that makes the crop too tall and narrow I'd crop her from the hands up.

Yupp, nice shot. Agree with Gene on the crop.
I've tried it and also adjusted white balance, levels & sharpness a bit. Result is attached.

I think the first one looks better other than the obvious referee chair?

Looking at if from my calibrated monitor, I over-sharpened it a bit. But I still think it's clearer and brighter. Hopefully the OP can do better given the full sized image.

I think considering they have the 50D I would have cranked the ISO just a little more and got a big more SS.. though not having the noise software installed might change ones mind.

Looks like you just about had the settings right on. I shot in a junior high gym tonight and had to go to ISO 6400 to get f/2.8 at 1/500. I could have backed down to 3200 at 1/400 sec and maybe open the lens (135L f/2) a tad but I just stuck with what I had. More experimenting, I guess.

I will *NOT* shoot anything in our middle school unless someone actually hands me money to do it ;) The lights are the ones I played under in the mid 80's when I played basketball 5th-8th grades! It was almost an embarrassment to bring the team I was coaching into the gym where I actually live and grew up it's so run down.

I just finished with my pics. Some have had some post processing, others have not. All had a dip in Noiseware Professional.
This was 8th grade and yes, the gym was a little darker than I like it.

Thanks for the tips! I been trying to shoot more in manual than AV recently and have found my exposures to be better. I'll be putting the Neat Image on the new pc shortly. What I found tough at this age was determining where the serve would go and then trying to get a quick focus and meter and still get the ball...

Tough for me also. So, sometimes I focus on one player and take my chances. sometimes it comes their way, sometimes not. :-(
