Ok, so I'm thinking of buying a 7D. Video is a bonus, but certainly not a requirement.

Are there any heated discussions on dynamic range? I found one on some other site that compared panopeeper's data to some other bodies.

And then I found some for my beloved 1D MKII here:

From what I'm seeing, I should probably keep the mkii :) Any other thoughts? Maybe the signal to noise ratio is what I'm not interpreting properly here!

LOL you got me there!

But seriously, that first link I do take with a grain of salt, maybe a teaspoon from that site!

I did a visual comparison, and it doesn't look like much difference on DR, but real world pics show much better high iso from what I've seen in the wild.

High ISO is pretty darn good given the 18MP on a crop sensor.
No banding at ISO12800 too.

No noticeable banding on the red or green channels at 25600 either, the blue starts to band, at least on my copy. But still 25600 is salvageable using some heavy handed methods.

See this thread I did from yesterday to see what I mean.

from what I seen..high ISO the 7D should kill the 1DII..I hated the high ISO on my old 1DII..I wouldnt go above 800 and 1600 was MAX..3200 was crap on it.

TeamSpeed, you have been around long enough, I don't even have to click ;) I'll click later though!

05xrunner, you are also a force here!

I'm an engineer by day, so I'd like to see some chart comparisons, or just raw numbers. I think the missing link is the signal to noise ratio and a few other items. I don't understand it 100%, but there's no clear comparisons except for output on the web that I can pic vs pic!

I was hoping this would be a pixel peeping thread with some #'s to back up claims. Maybe I'm asking too much here

It doesn't compare it to my 1Dmkii. Can't someone make charts and hand it to me on a silver platter?

Good stuff man!
