I am pricing out rentals for a mini-studio (for an event shoot I have coming up), and right now I am looking at this setup.

This kit: https://www.lensrentals.com …two-head-studio-flash-kit (external link)

With 2 PocketWizard Plus II's

Would this work out for me? Will I possibly need a 3rd PW?

Also. Does the battery pack the kit comes with, plug into an outlet, or is it specifically a wireless battery-pack? (I am fairly dumb when it comes to studio style lighting.)

Anyway, thanks for the help and sorry for the simple questions!

From reading the description all you need is two Pocket wizards one on the camera one attached to the power pack which plugs into an AC outlet. The two light heads plug into the power pack. You might want a flash meter if you do not already have one. Hope this helps John

Brad,
Are you renting a studio ? If so, check with them, they may have lights that are included in the rental fee of the studio, or they may have the option of using their equipment at an additional fee. One of the studios I rent has lights, stands, softboxes, umbrellas and backgrounds, all included in the rental fee.

regards, george w

This is a pack-and-head style flash. It would work for me - I don't know about you. The power pack is not a battery pack. You must plug this unit into a regular wall outlet. They do make battery packs and inverters to power such devices, but if you have electrical power available wherever you are shooting, use it and you will save the expense and trouble of an additional thing to rent or buy.

The power pack in the kit is a 500Ws power pack with its power spread between two heads that plug into the pack. That should be plenty for most situations. The pack in the rental link will accept up to three heads on the single pack. The power can be distributed in various ways to the heads so they can have different amounts of light coming from them.

With a pack-and-head setup, you only need to trigger the pack to fire the all the flash heads that are plugged into it. That means you should only need two Pocket Wizards - one for your camera and one for the pack.

There are instruction sheets on the link you listed. I would download them and become familiar with them.

I hope this helps.

I am needing a simple setup for an event shoot I have coming up. I just need some basic lighting to photograph couple's throughout the evening.
So I figured 2 strobes\lights with umbrellas should be simple and effective enough to do this.
