Hi everyone,

Several times during the last eleven months, since taking up photography, I've heard reports of a Black Kite in the Waihopai valley here in Marlborough. Apparently it somehow made it's way over here from Oz. This is the only sighting of this species in N.Z. and this one, lone individual has been here for approximately 17 years !!!!!!

I knew roughly where he was supposed to hang out so took a drive up there yesterday avo and this morning. The followiong pics are the best I could manage. He was always 'mega miles' away and these are VERY heavy crops. I also whacked the EC way over to the right on this morning's shots to try and bring some detail out in the underside of the wings. Of course the sky is blown out to buggery as a result. Anyway, just thought you guys and gals might be interested in a 'one of kind' bird.

Matt.

It'll get to Birds eventually -- nice capture and a very interesting bird.

Wow, I wonder how it made it's way over. Poor thing will live a lonely life now. Good to see and even better you had your camera with you though.
