Does anyone use a simple non layered non 1000 feature program without DAM?

In other words, Lightroom like, without using the Database features. Just need to open an occasional image after DPP and do some localized edits, like dodge and burn or localized saturation, but don't want to deal with layers and a bunch of extra stuff.

Ever hear of such a program?

You don't have to 'deal with layers' in Photoshop (or Elements), unless you want to, or is this not what you are after?

Zazoh,

That's probably the main reason I have stuck with PS7 and tolerate it's 8 bit layers. It annoys me intensely to be forced to buy something I don't want and will never use but has cost me money and fills my PC with junk.

If I wanted an image filing system then I'd buy one, purpose made to be the best it is possible to be and does not try to do one hundred other things badly at the same time.

It's caused by the same Nerdy computer types who cannot leave things alone, as in "Would'nt it be cool if it could do XYZ as well". No guys, it would not - leave it alone.

There are plenty of programs that offer less capabilities than the full blown version of Photoshop. I have not seen one with just the functionality that you mention but as NinetyEight mentions you can ignore what you don't want to use. There is Elements or PSP to mention just a couple.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

Still slows up my PC and fills the registry with rubbish I then can never get shot of. Cheap junk is still junk.

So, I'm not alone, that is comforting. My for instance is, many are very happy just to use the very minimal localized edits available with LR. and NOTHING else. But LR has the whole file management piece that I don't require.

Agree - I doubt I use any more than 5-10% of the capabilities of CS4

Well, there are plenty of free or inexpensive basic photo editors out there -- Google Picasa, ACDSee, HP Photosmart editor for examples. If you're not shooting Raw and developing a comprehensive workflow around your shooting, Lightroom/Photoshop/Aperture may not be the best choice.

Zazoh -
I have used and loved Picture Window Pro at home for 8 years, although at work in the years 1998 - 2004 I used PS5, PS6 and PS7. It uses an entirely different approach from the layered workflow of PS and its wannabes, one I found much friendlier although I know PS veterans that had difficulty making the transition. I suggest you take a look at it: http://dl-c.com/ (external link)

None of those do localized edits. At least Picasa and Photosmart don't, don't know about ACDSee.

Bibble would do exactly what you are looking for - easy processing of multiple images. I liked it a lot but I like the added DAM features of Lightroom.
