Send it to Canon with a print of one of those images.

Whenever you think you're having problems, it's time to run some controlled tests. Even if you decide to send it in for repair, having run tests will give you more information for the technicians as to when the problem occurs and when it doesn't.

Have you even bothered taking any test shots since then? It's not as though you have to get film developed.

Looks like sync issue to me Jon. I'd recommend Fixation in London for looking at the camera if you think it's necessary - they're Canon authorised, and will check/repair for free if the camera's under warranty.

Also, is that the marquee at Thrumpton Hall? ...looks identical if it isn't!

I am starting to lean that way in my thinking too. At the time i was working with the new Pocket wizards and had a Flextt5 on top with a 580exII mounted on that. It had not given me any issues all day.
Once i removed the PW it was still the same. But it does look like a sync problem doesn't it?

Shutter was 1/60
F2.8
Flash fired.

return the PW's! EPIC FAIL those things are.

I had the same problem. Do a Google search on 5D and mirror fell off. The mirror on the 5d and 5dII are falling of because the glue is wrong. Canon is fixing for free. Using different glue I hope. Mine actually came out of the camera after I took the lens off. Images looked just like yours before it happened.

Sent 2 day UPS from Ohio to NJ and got back in 5 days, no charge.

Good luck.

There shouldn't be any 5D2 mirrors falling off. Those are mechanically clamped to the support.

Well.

After several days of firing away i have yet to repeat the problem. I did a full reset on the camera and reinstalled the firmware.
I spoke with canon uk and as the fault is not really present now they seem unwilling to assist any further .
I am seriously thinking that it was just a communication breakdown between the the camera and the flash most likely caused by the PW's. I need to do some more testing to prove this though.
In a sense i am hoping that it was a simple one off and i cannot reproduce it as the PW's were working well for me despite the negative comments i have read.

Rob - Yes it was thrumpton hall, well spotted.
