Someone, Crissa, I think, mentioned doing pork chops in the crock pot the other night. I decided that sounded good so I found a simple recipe in one of our cook books today. The end result, while edible, wasn't anything to write home about...

Obviously, I have to work on my cooking skills some more...

Skip the pork chops and make London Broil every other night. ;) Maybe with mashed potatoes.

No you just need a better recipe. Crock pot cooking is usually a matter of combining a bunch of ingredients and slow cooking it. Some food is good like this, some not so good, it has little to do with the cook. While a pork loin sounds good in a Crock, a chop not so much. What I dislike about Crock Pots is they don't reduce the liquid at all. you end up with what you started with so flavors, while well infused, are not intensified. The couple times I made chili in the CP I put it on the stove at the finish to reduce it a bit. It came out really good like that.

Yes, and makes it well. We were extra full that night.

I'll volunteer, but you've got to get me out there. Its not hard to make them from scratch!

Zane....I agree about crock pot cooking. I only use it for things like beef stew, and like you, I still finish it on the stove.

I've completely changed my method of making mashed potatoes in the last few months. I used to cook them in a pressure cooker, run them through a ricer, then finish them up in the mixer. Now, I just cut them into cubes, boil them in a pan, drain when tender, and use an old-fashioned armstrong potato masher. It leaves just a few lumps which I actually prefer. I just did a batch today to serve with the leftover turkey. Lois says they were the best ever. Of course that was a gross exaggeration, but I never get tired of hearing it.

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!

Nice. I am actually not a huge mooshed tater fan. I prefer taters crisped in some sort of oil whether in an oven or pan or both.

Oh goot oogly moogly she is! She will have no trouble finding a home. I imagine that is part of the reason for the $600 adoption fee.
I know we have had the fee discussion, and I TOTALLY understand why and how much it must cost rescues. There was some talk of how high the fees are here. I imagine part of that is the D.C. area has some very wealthy areas and LOTS of money. It is just not as opulent or flashy as say Beverly hills. There is also a fairly liberal socially conscious population who want to help by adopting dogs. Jon might know better but I bet a healthy good looking puppy doesn't last long in a shelter around here and can fetch a fair price to cover adoption costs.
