Steve,

You've captured a pair of nice moments in your images.

Next time, you will need to shoot tighter. That means getting closer with the 85mm or perhaps shooting at ISO 3200 and using your 70-200 at f/2.8. The players not involved in the action should be cropped from the image. Load and use your noise software and perhaps read up and use a custom white balance. Keep at it!

Thanks for the compliments and the tips. I'll be loading the software this week. I figured I should try the 70-200 next game.
I thought about a crop on the left one, but kinda liked how the other 2 girls stand in the "ready to hit" position...

Steve,

When you are shooting too tight to be in your comfort zone, you'll have it just about right--go ahead and make it a bit tighter. I like seeing the face, the ball and especially the eyes in your images. Dare to take some photos where the whole frame is filled with the player from the waist up or perhaps a 3/4 body shot. If you're not getting any complaints that your crops are too tight, you're not doing it right.
:D

Here is my most recent shot where I got the complaint that the crop was too tight. The top of the head is cut off, the football is cut off, and so is the front arm. It is so tight that the football is out of focus but this shot makes people go, WOW. I'm not saying you need to get this tight but I do say 'don't be afraid to get tighter.'
