Windows 7 64-bit.

What utilities, plug-ins, drivers, et cetera have photographers discovered could not make the transition from 32-bit XP? Or can confirm will make the transition?

I've discovered that my beloved Breeze Systems "Downloader Pro" works in 64-bit, although there is some registry juggling needed to get it to autostart when a card is plugged into a reader.

And Photoshop 32-bit plug-ins will work if you install 32-bit Photoshop in 64-bit Windows 7.

What other discoveries, happy or unhappy, have been made?

I found that Portraiture2 works in 64 bit CS4 but NIK plugins will only work in 32 bit CS4. This is in Windows 7, of course. Also, as someone has already posted, http://www.fastpictureviewer.com/codecs/ (external link) , here is the codec for veiwing RAW thumbnails in Windows 7. Works like a charm.

I would recommend using the embedded preview mode--hopefully that would be able to read new Canon CR2 versions without the codec itself being updated:

Can be configured to skip raw conversion and always use embedded previews instead. Note that Canon previews are usually of lower resolution than the real image."

From XP to 7, there may be some things that go wrong, but vista to 7, practically everything works as needed

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.

Some of our Citrix VPN stuff (for viewing Xray images from remote to our hospital for example) doesn't work quite right, but can be worked around. Otherwise for me haven't hit any snags yet.
