newbie softball pics

My wife and her friend volunteered me to take their daughters softball team pics.:( I have never taken planned pics before. It will be a 6:30pm start time on the field. I have a EOS 350D XT with the standard 18-55 factory lens. Any advice on settings would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you in advance.

My first time group photo i just put it in p mode and used fill flash. with 40d &18-55mm is
Not to bad ;)

Not exactly sure whsat your asking... there is a lot to know.

I almost always put the sun at the subjects back... otherwise I look for shade but I prefer backlight (natural hairlight)

Here is one I did today... (not cropped or fully edited)

ISO -160
f 5.6
1/250
580 EX (on camera)
155mm (70-200 2.8 )
Quantum Battery pack (not important but helps)

I have never been permited to use flash at softball games. One shot from behind the fence with a flash was called out by the ump and a strike was issued to our team that was up to bat.
