Last 3 games have been in steady rain. Two at our place on grass fields were mudbowl games. Enjoy these unflashed, ambient mud game shots:

1) Midway through 1st quarter before things got too bad

IMAGE: http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a310/dsnyder160/DPP_14154.jpg

2) First-and-goal ... FUMBLE!!! Fourth Quarter action ...

IMAGE: http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a310/dsnyder160/DPP_14198.jpg

3. Second-and-goal ... stopped for no gain

IMAGE: http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a310/dsnyder160/DPP_14194.jpg

4. Third-and-goal ... paydirt! Er ... pay MUD?!

IMAGE: http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a310/dsnyder160/DPP_14204.jpg

5. Sideline break in the action

IMAGE: http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a310/dsnyder160/DPP_14188.jpg

I know these aren't flashed and real pretty, but the images are a great representation of how things looked like during the game. As an old-school guy, I'm starting to see the benefit of turf fields over grass. This season has been a mess for the kids during home games and a real challenge to shoot!

The red team is my son's school. After Friday they are 8-1. Friday night they ran the ball 50-some times for 420 yards. The QB was 0-1 through the air! #5 and #33 each scored two TDs on the ground.

All shots are 50D, 70-200 f/2.8. Shot at 2.8, ISO 2500 at 1/500.

nice shots with the 50D. Wow there must of been a lot of light in that stadium to get 1/500 even @ iso 2500

Nice shots!
Did you use any kind of rain coat on the camera or had it stopped raining when these were taken?
Has anyone used the camera rain coats and how are they at protecting?

Yes, indeed. Also shot at 3 away games this season. Our home field is the best lit by a longshot! #4 was in the end zone where light is usually pretty bad. Grass field / good lights. I'll take that trade-off any day!

No, just a large, thick bath towel draped across body and lens to the end of the lens hood. Two weeks ago, I fashioned a small wastebasket bag around everything. Had about 6" overhang at body end which worked out well. For a few rain games a season, I'll take the 'shade-tree-mechanic' approach, I think.

Thanks flyingphotog and cyclop. Guess what the forecast for says for this Friday night so far? RAIN!!! All day and into Saturday's JV game as well. Last game of the season and I'm just hearing that I've neglected to get shots of this number or that player.

Hoping for a rain game?!!! I'll trade you the other three PLUS tomorrow night where two straight days of rain are expected!

I don't really mind as the wife bought me a really nice FootJoy Rain Suit for golfing in the rain in NE Ohio. It's really come in handy shooting the last 3-4 weeks in the rain! If I just had the guts to wear my waterproof golf shoes, we'd be set!

And thanks for the kind words on the photos. Still a blast--even in the rain!
